GOODBYE CHILDHOOD
A JOURNEY TO REMEMBER
Unsure steps and an anxious brow
That's how I entered school back then;
Many new faces - a few in tears,
But our teacher's smile drove away our fears.
Friendly taunts and happy smiles
Homework lists and assignment files.
Days filled with laughter, pranks and hope,
Loads of shared lunches and inside jokes.
Many lessons learnt, many books read
Many friends made, a few tears shed;
A plethora of memories - some happy, some sad,
Laughter and screams as we all played "tag".
Then came the beakers and spectroscopes
Along came the programs, tests and lab coats.
Timely help from teachers so dear,
A few exam nights filled with anxiety and fear.
How can one forget a journey so grand?
Funny stories narrated and games in the sand
Sports, dancing and eating fests;
Tours and excursions - oh, they were the best!
But everything good must come to an end
To time's cruel rule we all must bend.
It's time for us all to enter the woods:
Into the dark, unknown land of adulthood.
Unsure steps and an anxious brow
That's how I entered school back then -
Unsure steps and an anxious brow;
That's how I leave dear school now.
