An ode to a Mother

I stand alone, my knees are weak
I stumble and I fall.
But push myself up, up again
To stand up straight and tall.

My knees give in, my smile - it fades
As down again I sink.
I try to stand, but fail again
"I cannot do it", I think.

I hear her voice, I see her smile
I feel her love for me;
Five yards between us both -
But they, seem so much more to me.

There she stands, yonder afar
Beckoning me along;
I take a step, maybe two
But the distance seems too long.

I try and try and try until
Into her arms I fall;
She laughs and pulls me close into
An embrace that erases all.

I may be young, I may be small
But when I grow I'm sure
I'll walk a hundred miles for her
And then a hundred more.

    1. Thank you so much ma'am! If not for all my English teachers like you - I would never have discovered my love for capturing the everyday beauty and the magic in the small moments in life in verse :) 🀍Tess
